NEW TECHNOLOGY TO AID IN THE MITIGATION OF THE SPREAD OF LIONFISH

Research scientists of the Regional Fisheries Centre of Puerto Morelos and the UNAM Multidisciplinary Unit of Teaching and Research in Sisal, Yucatan, have developed technology to help mitigate the spread of the Lionfish (a predatory fish that has becomes a serious threat to other commercial species in the region) in Western Atlantic waters.

The research allows the country´s fisheries sector to obtain balanced food for fattening canané snapper, cultivated in floating crates in the Pacific producing areas, the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.
