
Hyderabad, India, Thursday 11 October 2012 – At a side event on Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) organized by the GEF at the occasion of the 11th Conference of the Parties for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Ms. Andrea Ramírez, member of the Colombian delegation and liaison person for the Caribbean Large Marine Ecosystem Project (CLME), presented on the critical importance of regional projects such as CLME in creating the enabling conditions that allow local actions for MPA management to become better coordinated, more effective and efficient.
The support to the establishment of regional governance frameworks that facilitate better articulation of MPAs with, for example fisheries management, was taken up by the GEF as a major conclusion that may help steer the development of revise focal area strategies under the GEF´s 6th replenishment.
